Opportunity: Conserving Port Sunlight War Memorial’s Lettering

Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is looking to commission a conservator for the on-site treatment of the painted lead lettering on the War Memorial, Port Sunlight.

The project

The War Memorial is recognised as one of the most significant war memorials in the country and is one of the largest in the UK. The aim of this treatment is to undertake maintenance work on the lettering. The scope of work includes cleaning some areas of the stone and lettering, repointing vertical mortar joints on the frieze, priming and painting all of the letters, and replacing a limited number of letters. Who we’re looking for

The specialist contractor ideally would be a conservator with ICON Accreditation, or significant equivalent experience, and you will have training and experience in the conservation and treatment of historic metal works and history masonry, amongst other requirements such as appropriate insurance.

Timings

The deadline for submissions is 10am on Monday 4th November 2024. Interviews for short-listed parties will be conducted during the week of 18th November. The works must be completed by the 31st March 2025. For information on how to submit, download the brief below.
