What objects are we looking for?
Port Sunlight Museum’s collection is filled with thousands of objects that together tell the story of this unique village, which we care for and protect for future generations. We’re always looking for relevant objects to grow our collection, so we would love to know about any objects you would like to donate to us. However, we unfortunately can’t accept everything.
How do we consider donations to our collection?
As an Accredited Museum with limited storage, we must ensure that any objects we acquire are relevant and meet the criteria of our Collections Development Policy. That means we have to undertake a review of your object before accepting it as a donation.
If your donation is not accepted, it may be for one of the following reasons:
- We already have a similar object in our collection
- The object does not meet the criteria of our Collections Development Policy
- The item is not in a good enough condition
- There is not enough information about the provenance or history of the object
- Our space and resources
- It may be more suitable in the collection of another institution (if this is the case, we will advise you and provide contact details for other institutions)

We’re sorry, but we are unable to accept donations in-person at Port Sunlight Museum or PSVT’s office, or by post, without prior approval. If it is brought in-person, you will be asked to take it home with you. If sent by post, we will return it to you by post. Thank you for your understanding.
