The Worker’s Cottage

See inside one of Port Sunlight’s famous worker cottages

Next door to Port Sunlight Museum at No. 22 King George’s Drive, you can step inside a Port Sunlight worker’s cottage to experience what everyday life was like here in the early 20th century.

Explore the recreated home of the Carr family, who were real long-time tenants and worked in the Lever Brothers factory. The cottage is filled with artefacts and you’ll be given a warm welcome by our guides, who will share the stories of this special house.

Inside, you can journey through the parlour, scullery, main bedroom and temporary exhibition room, as well as glimpse into the child’s bedroom.

There is an entry fee to visit the Worker’s Cottage, as part of your visit to Port Sunlight Museum. You can pay on the day or book your ticket online.

 

Opening times

Open Monday–Sunday, 10am–4.30pm.

Closed 24, 25, 26 December, open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Please note the Worker’s Cottage may open at 11am and close at 3pm on some days. If the door is closed, pop into the museum next door and a member of our team will be happy to help.

*Purchase a Port Sunlight Museum ticket and enjoy a discount on a morning village walking tour at 11am – book online or in-person.

Children under 5 go free and do not need a ticket. Free entry is available to carers accompanying a visitor with a disability.

All income received from ticket sales to Port Sunlight Museum goes directly to supporting Port Sunlight Village Trust’s work to preserve and promote this special village.

Your Port Sunlight Museum ticket also gives you a special discount on a walking tour ticket, so make sure to book them together either online or on the day.

 

A year’s worth of visits

We’d love to see you again, so that’s why your ticket will remain valid for 12 months from the purchase date, giving you the chance to explore Port Sunlight’s story again. Just remember to hold on to your ticket!

 

Getting here

You can find the Worker’s Cottage next door to Port Sunlight Museum at 23 King George’s Drive, Port Sunlight CH62 5DX. Free parking is available opposite and on surrounding streets, however please be mindful of residents. Find out more about travelling to Port Sunlight here.

 

Accessibility

The Worker’s Cottage is not level access unfortunately. There is one step at the entrance, however a ramp is available on request. The first floor is only accessible via a staircase with banister. Visitors can enjoy a 3D virtual tour of the first floor using a tablet in Port Sunlight Museum’s shop. The interior doors are relatively narrow. Toilets including an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities are available next door at Port Sunlight Museum. Assistance dogs are welcome inside the Worker’s Cottage, however we’re not able to allow non-assistance dogs.
