New Grow eco wellbeing project to support Port Sunlight’s communities
17 Jul 2024
Port Sunlight Village Trust is launching a new eco conscious community wellbeing project called Grow to support local people to make healthier and greener lifestyle choices.
The project has been made possible thanks to a Community Green Grant, with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
Through a six-month programme of workshops, activities, volunteering opportunities and the development of a new community growing space in Port Sunlight, Grow will engage residents, local community groups, schools, and volunteers in the immediate and surrounding area. From increasing personal skills and awareness of carbon footprints to reducing food waste and stress levels, the project will support PSVT’s aim to make Port Sunlight an inspiring place to live and work.
Since Port Sunlight’s creation in 1888, the benefits of its green and growing spaces have played a significant role in the community. Port Sunlight was built on the philosophy of ‘Prosperity Sharing’, where the village’s founder William Lever reinvested money to support workforce wellbeing. This included creating green spaces spanning across the village with 10 sites housing 250+ allotments – today, only 16 allotment plots stand.
Grow will build on Port Sunlight’s green foundations to support Wirral’s local community to make healthier and happier lifestyle choices, coinciding with the borough’s Cool Wirral Climate Action campaign.
The project will start with free activities including a Foraging Walk on Tuesday 30 July 2024 at 10.30am, an Edible Flowers Workshop on Tuesday 6 August 2024, 11am, and a Herb Butters Workshop on Thursday 15 August 2024, 6.30pm.
Various further workshops and opportunities as part of the Grow project will be made available on our What’s On page throughout its duration.
