Port Sunlight Road Race

Port Sunlight Road Race 2017

This year’s Port Sunlight 10K Road Race will take place on Sunday 18th June, and is being sponsored by Unilever.  This is the sixth annual race day event and will include a 10K, 5K, and children’s 1K fun run.

Last year’s event attracted 1,700 enthusiastic runners who enjoyed visiting our picturesque village, taking in the tree-lined boulevards for the 5K and 10K routes.  The 5K race starts at 10am, and is followed at 11am by the 10K race.  Once the 10K runners have completed the race, there is a children’s 1K fun run.

The BTR Port Sunlight Road Race is organised in conjunction with Port Sunlight Village Trust and is sponsored by Unilever.  The races start and finish next to the village green, adjacent to Port Sunlight Museum, which provides a fantastic backdrop to the event.

BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell commented: “The BTR Port Sunlight Road Race is firmly established in the village’s event calendar and also on the region’s running scene.  We are again delighted to be working with Port Sunlight Village trust to stage the event and for the support of sponsor, Unilever.  We must also say a big thank you to the residents of the village who cheer on the runners, making them feel very welcome.”

You can register for either the 5K or 10K races here.

The children’s 1K fun run is open to youngsters up to the age of 12.  Entry is £5 per child and entries are taken on the day.  Youngsters also receive a medal and goody bag.  Parents can accompany their children around the course.  Parents are asked to register their interest in advance by emailing alan@btrliverpool.com

Allow around an hour for the activities.  The workshops cost £1.50 per child.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Explore an Edwardian Worker’s Cottage

Explore an Edwardian Worker’s Cottage

Our newest heritage attraction at Port Sunlight is now open.  For many years visitors have asked if they can see inside one of the homes in the village.  We’re pleased to say that we are now able to offer this opportunity.  A cottage has been recreated as the appearance it may have had in 1913 when it was first built.  Developed with the original architect’s plans and new research, and filled with many period artefacts, it offers the chance to step back in time to experience everyday life in the village over a century ago.

Admission to the worker’s cottage is included in admission to Port Sunlight Museum.  The cottage is open daily from 11am-4pm, museum open 10am-5pm.

Explosion Update

Date: 30th March 2017

Port Sunlight Village Trust Update Statement:

Paul Harris, Chief Executive of Port Sunlight Village Trust, commented:

“Firstly, our thoughts are with the residents of New Ferry and Port Sunlight following the explosion on Saturday evening, especially those who have been injured or suffered damage to their homes. The events of the weekend have shocked us all; however our communities have shown great resilience and community spirit.

“Trust  staff have been on-site since the incident occurred, working with the emergency services, Wirral Council, and local contractors to ensure the welfare of village residents and to secure properties damaged by the blast. This has been our primary concern in the first instance.

Over the coming weeks, once the police have completed their investigation and the site has been made safe, a full assessment of all damaged buildings will be carried out and repair work will begin. In some cases, this work will take several months to complete and we are working with Wirral Council to ensure all affected residents are suitably accommodated.

“We would like to thank all Port Sunlight residents for their patience, support and cooperation during this very difficult time.”

Tree felling work along railway embankment – February 2017

News Update 2nd February 2017 – Tree Felling Work on Railway Embankment

Some residents and visitors to Port Sunlight may be aware of the recent tree felling work which has been taking place on the railway embankment near Greendale Road. The work is outside the Port Sunlight Village Trust land, but we’ve been able to find out a few more updates for residents who may be curious about the work.
The work has been commissioned by Network Rail in collaboration with the Wirral Council. The company working on the site is Railscape who are specialists in tree control and vegetation management across railways.
Railscape have been instructed to cut down all leaf fall trees close to the railway near Port Sunlight to reduce the number of leaves falling onto the line. The leaves get caught on the electrified area of the third rail which affects the performance of the railway. The area between Port Sunlight railway station and the railway bridge on Greendale Road has had all tree removed as they were sycamores which are the ones which cause the greatest problem with leaves falling onto the line. As a general rule, the oaks and willows will not be cut down and the birches will also remain wherever possible.
Railscape anticipate that the tree screen will not be so badly affected along the rest of Greendale Road as many of the trees are oaks and willows and will therefore not be removed. Some of the larger specimens […]

Date: Thursday 23rd March 2017, starts 7.30pm
Venue: The Old School Room at the Lyceum
